TREATMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF OUTDOOR WOODEN DOORS WITH SatinDip AND/OR Satinwood 28/28 BASE


IMPORTANT
  • Satinwood 28 Base is recommended for treatment of Hardwoods of low porosity.
  • Satinwood 28 is recommended for treatment of Softwoods and Hardwoods of high porosity.
  • SatinDip may be used as a wood stabilizing and protective pretreatment at factory level instead of Satinwood 28/28 Base.
  • The recommended maximum moisture content of wooden doors should preferably not exceed 10 percent before treatment.
1. RECOMMENDED PRETREATMENT AT FACTORY LEVEL
  • Completely submerse assembled doors into SatinDip or Satinwood 28/28 Base for at least 30 to 60 seconds. (If not possible, apply liberally with a soft brush or sponge dipped in SatinDip or Satinwood 28/28 Base and ensure that all exposed end grain is thoroughly coated/sealed)
  • Remove and allow excess liquid to drain back into dip/immersion tank.
  • Allow SatinDip or Satinwood 28/28 Base to absorb into the wood for at least 30 minutes.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Although not essential, a post drying period of approximately 24 hours is recommended, depending on prevailing conditions, before packaging and/or dispatch.
IMPORTANT
  • Mix SatinDip or Satinwood 28/28 Base well before addition to dip/immersion tank and/or before application by other methods.
  • Always mix contents of dip/immersion tank before use and at regular intervals during use, as and when required.

Note: Supply or sell a sufficient volume of Satinwood 28/28 Base with the finished doors for the application of at least two further coats.

2. RECOMMENDED POST TREATMENT AND MAINTENANCE AT DIY LEVEL 2.1 Treatment of newly installed wooden doors

  • Apply two coats of Satinwood 28/28 Base directly after installation of doors. (See recommended application procedure below)
  • Ensure that all exposed end grain is thoroughly coated/sealed.
2.2 Maintenance of outdoor wooden doors
  • Depending on outdoor conditions, apply one coat of Satinwood 28/28 Base at least once a year (See recommended application procedure below).
  • When in doubt, apply Satinwood 28/28 Base when the wood appears faded or dry, especially on the horizontal and north-westerly exposed surfaces.
2.3 Recommended application procedure
  • Wipe surface down with a clean cotton cloth lightly moistened with mineral turpentine if necessary. (Ensure that all surfaces are completely dry and clean before proceeding with the next step)
  • Use a clean cotton cloth, sponge or soft brush dipped in the Satinwood 28/28 Base and apply in light, short strokes, ensuring thorough and even distribution of the sealer.
  • Leave the sealer on the surface for at least 1 to 2 hours (but not more than 24 hours), to allow absorption into the wood.
  • Use a clean cotton cloth and wipe off all excess liquid to leave a natural smooth finish.
  • Allow to dry for approximately 24 hours before application of another coat.
IMPORTANT
  • Satinwood 28/28 Base is a ready for use formulation. Do not dilute.
  • Mix well before use.
  • Never apply Satinwood 28/28 Base on wet surfaces or during the heat of day, except if shaded from direct sunlight.
  • If applied by brush, clean equipment with mineral turpentine after use.
  • Regular application of Satinwood 28/28 Base will ensure that your outdoor wooden doors remains fully protected against our harsh South African climatic conditions.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
  • Flammable liquid - Avoid open flames during use.
  • Avoid eye splashes and prolonged skin contact.
  • Used cloths may ignite spontaneously - Dispose of in a safe manner or completely submerse in water after use.
